Joe Wendell Woods January 26, 1936 ~ April 30, 2023 87 Years Old Joe Wendell Woods, 87, of Whiteville passed away on Sunday April 30, 2023. He was born on January 26, 1936 in Hardeman County to the late Earnest and Sallie Mae Woods. His funeral service was held on Saturday May 6, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Jerome Boyd Chapel at Dixie Funeral Home with Pastor David L. Perry in charge. Burial was in the Bethlehem #1 MB Church-Mercer cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy. On April 18, 1961 he married Lois Taylor and to this union two children were born, Wendy and Joel. After retiring from the Navy in 1976 he returned to Hardeman County. He was not a high school graduate but upon returning to Hardeman County and in two years received his high school diploma. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem #1 MB Church and served as a deacon. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Robert Lee, Elbert, Larry and Willie B. Woods and two sisters, Katherine Turner and Pauline Ellis. He leaves to cherish him his wife of 63 years, Lois; his children, Wendy (Barry) Boler and Joel (Arlanda) Woods; three brothers, Herbert (Gloria), Earnest and Rochelle Woods; one sister, Ruby Jean Woods; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends that will truly miss him.
